Business Portraits
It's a fact that ‘People buy people’ - We all prefer to deal with people that we can relate to.
It makes sense to have a business portrait that will let your personality shine through.
Business portraits or headshots can be used in numerous ways: on your website; Facebook page; LinkedIn..
Twitter; business cards; blogs; annual reports; presentations and newsletters.... the list goes on.
A selfie from a night out just doesn't cut it on LinkedIn
Selfie on a night outnot the professional image I want

Business portraits don't have to be boring!
Fun Business PortraitsFarnborough, Camberley, Basingstoke and beyond Headshots for business
Here are some tips & ideas on how to get the best head shot for you, but remember there are no hard and fast rules
Wear clothes that are comfortable and that make you look and feel great.
CEO HeadshotsMedia Portfolio Headshots
Ideally, you should wear something that you would wear when you are meeting clients
It doesn't have to be a suit and tie, what you wear should reflect you and your business style.
Corporate headshotsReading, Farnborough, Staines, Basingstoke and beyond
You are representing your brand values, you are the face of the business
Choose something that falls well and flatters your neckline.
If you choose to wear a suit make sure your jacket and shirt fit you well
(too big or too small will show in the photos) Professional Business Portraits
Clothes should always be neatly pressed. You could even treat yourself to something new!
Long sleeved shirts/blouses are best, even for the head and shoulders shots.
What colours photograph best?
Solid colours can work really well and most people look good in mid-tones (green, blue and brown)
White can "wash you out" and black can look like a solid mass (rather than slimming you down).
Wear colours that emphasise your eyes!
CEO Headshots Surrey
Blue/green/turquoise shirts/blouses or accents can help emphasise blue/green/hazel eyes
If you usually wear glasses, wear them in the shots.
If you switch between contacts and glasses have both styles taken.
By keeping things simple with a plain background, it ensures that the focus is on you.
The primary focus for a professional business headshot should be the face; specifically the eyes, as they are the windows to your soul.
Tight crops or unusual angle can make your shot stand out from the crowd.
Media headshots
Do you photoshop the images?
Yes, I use photoshop. Digital files on professional cameras have an amazing amount of detail!!
I use editing techniques to even out skin tone, remove spots, brighten eyes and occasionally reduce the appearance of wrinkles and laughter lines, (although these are part of your character, they make you - YOU) so I don't remove them completely.
When should I update my photos?
If you have a drastic change of hairstyle or weight-loss or you have started wearing glasses
If you have a team of employees with images on your website, then obviously you need to update them as and when people leave or join the team.
If the clothing you are wearing in your shot looks dated.

This style of shoot isn't limited to the under 30's or those with a size 10 figure.
There are some truly stunning "older women" out there.
Beauty doesn't have a time limit and improving with age isn't restricted to wine and men!
It's a shoot for YOU, it may be a gift for your husband/partner or a gift from your husband/partner...
but it is all about you!
I will arrange for a hair and makeup artist for you, so you look and feel your best.
Then I'll direct & pose you to emphasise your best bits.
I'll capture you in the best light.
If a photo shoot like this scares the hell out of you....That's fine.
Perhaps it's time to push your boundaries, do something that scares you.
Laugh in the face of fear

You may look at boudoir images and say "NEVER - not for me" If this is you, please read on....
There are boudoir levels for everyone, there are some that you will feel comfortable with.
The implied nude (strapless bra or towel in place) with your modesty preserved.
You can shoot in your PJ's and it's still a sexy shoot
Or your partners shirt....it can be sexy!
You may be wondering why anyone would want those type of images. My clients have a number of reasons...
A wedding gift for the future husband - why not show off your wedding lingerie?...
a gift on to your husband on your wedding day of what lies beneath.
An anniversary gift.
Celebrating a milestone (weightloss and/or birthday)
I am always grateful when clients allow me to share their images, I want to demonstrate that a boudoir shoot is for every woman, no matter what shape or age. (Images are only ever used with the clients permission)
My boudoir shoots are confidential, personal and tailored to each client.
Some clients find themselves celebrating their new independent status
what better way to rebuild confidence than to realise "you've still got it"?
Remember that feeling when you go out in a new outfit, or a new hair cut? You carry yourself with a bit more confidence, you've got your swagger back; that's the time when you get a bit more attention, friends compliment you on hair, clothes etc.
That feeling of confidence is exactly what a boudoir shoot can do for YOU.

Business headshots or business portraits give potential customers their first impression of you and your business; your personality and your attitude to work for prospective clients and employers.
Create the right first impression Research shows that just having a picture makes your profile 14 times more likely to be viewed by others.
Have you never looked at someone's profile picture and jumped to a conclusion?... because it was taken on a night out, it's holiday snap, or dodgy selfie?
A selfie on the night out is not ideal
And while we’ve all been warned to “never judge a book by its cover,” some research supports the notion that our flash judgments are often correct.
Even if you haven't judged the non professional business portrait I bet you've looked at some profile photos and thought wow, he looks professional, trustworthy, friendly etc
Be you
Whether you go for the more traditional/formal studio shot or something a bit different is up to you.
I'm happy to meet up and discuss what you want to achieve for yourself and your business.
CEO Portfolio Headshots
I'm often asked about what to wear and whether the shots should be with or without glasses, that is why you get a professional in to do the job. I'm here to help you get the best results for you. Glasses or without?...what is right for you? Together we'll tell your clients (and potential employers) your story. We can achieve various looks, for the multifaceted you.
Have options to meet your business needs I always recommend wearing what makes you feel great. Remember the old chestnut: "dress for the job you want, not the one you have" - it is good advice!
Your business your reputation The right shirt and tie combo can make your eyes twinkle.... If you are still unsure what to wear bring options and we can decide together.

BMW Proud Partners of England's Rugby At the Six Nations matches earlier there were sound booths where fans were encouraged to sing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" in support of the England team

The Henley Festival is actually in it's 33rd year; it is a festival of Arts and Music. It started life with the focus on classical music however it has developed over the years into a 5 day festival with live music from different genre, contemporary arts, comedy and fireworks. I was fortunate enough to have the pleasure of covering Henley as a corporate event photographer, capturing the essence of the unusual festival.

The challenge was open to all, the only requirement was a camera and the willingness to enjoy a pint with fellow photographers from all walks of life.
The rules were simple:
a) Meet in the agreed pub at the agreed time.
b) Pull a photography theme from the bag (26 random themes were submitted in advance)
c) Determine your kit - lens, focal length and aperture in advance. These setting MUST be used on all the themes throughout the day
My kit selection was: Nikon D700, 50mm lens, F2.8
d) Take images within the agreed 45min time frame and get to the next pub to pull out the next theme & repeat accordingly.
e) Select process and submit your best shot per theme.
SIMPLES!

When making the final selection I was conscious that I didn't want to have very similar shots to the other 8 photographers, although in reality this is fairly unlikely as we all see things differently and have different interpretation of the theme.

behind the scenes
2014 started with a portfolio building day with my dear friend Anthony Finney, (it's just a good excuse to shoot and catch up really) this is the result. a moody shot outside the old mill.
We moved indoors and Chris our model removed some clothes (Bless him it was brass monkeys).....The things these models do!
Corporate head shots and profile images have increased in demand this year, a professional business portrait says a lot about you and your brand.
Business Portraits
From the plain and simple, classic white background to the environmental workplace shots. The beauty of working on location enables variety, a simple studio can be set up in minimal space.
Environmental workplace portraits
I have covered numerous corporate events, from the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, The British Dentist Conference in Manchester and many annual conferences and training events. Each have their own challenges and rewards, capturing the essence of the event, telling the story for the client.
Business Conferences
Fascinating locations have been provided for me: Whilst shooting some corporate head shots for a lovely new client, this is a behind the scenes shot of my on location "studio"
Fantastic locations
An aircraft hangar - how cool is that - It's a thing of beauty isn't it? The polished floors and the skylights frame it perfectly.

Goodwood Festival of speed is a firm favourite as a corporate event
The days are long, the traffic is a nightmare and finding accommodation close by is like finding a needle in a haystack. This year I took up residence in a caravan park on Selsey Island...Perfect in so many ways except for the lack of decent shower facilities.....I didn't go without but the suntan lotion seems to attract the dust and a jet wash is a more appropriate requirement!
corporate events
However Goodwood always provides a wide array of photo opportunities: from fast cars, bikes to people watching, seriously what is not to love?
On occasion the people watching pays off.....
candid captures
A lovely capture of Charlie Boorman mid interview...being in the right place at the right time with a smidge of patience and the odd prayer pays off.
Red Arrows Flyby
Of course then there is the show stopping arrival of the red arrows just can't be missed....Well I say that but actually this shot for the client is easily missed. The Red Arrows arrive on the scene exactly when they are expected on the timetable, there is no announcement, no fan fair or count down, they appear from nowhere. Arriving with a flyby over Goodwood house the rest of the display is over the cricket pitch, offering the best viewing opportunity to the crowds. Over the four days the Red Arrows only make appearance twice, so being at the right place at the right time is crucial.
Goodwood Festival of Speed
Ok so there is was lot of stuff going on in 2014....to read part two come back next week!

This does not make her an object of lust nor desire...it is her job, she's a business woman.Coco has been propositioned on numerous occasions. She shared that many models that she knows are put into a similar positionwhere they are almost expected to prostitute themselves.Just because you employ/pay someone does it give you the right to every aspect of their life? This isn't a rant, neither is it a man bashing blog, hopefully some of these questions have very obvious answers,I don't want to give you my answers,I just wanted to share my random thoughts and observations..Lingerie modelHow many of us are guilty of looking at the television, a magazine oreven through a coffee shop window and undressing or redressing, making up scenarios orjust commenting on a persons appearance status or style.....just like those teenagers.Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, David Beckham are (were) icons:does it give us the right to view them as sex objects?Because they put themselves "out there" and they are famous does itgive us the right to scrutinise every area of their life?family holidays, bad hair days, eating bacon butties? With images easily, (maybe too easily available) Do we need to addresshow we see beauty? the beauty of a nude or semi nude bodyShould we take a different approach?Do we need to learn how to look, comment and feel differently?Maybe if we viewed our world and the people in it differently we would be kinderin our thoughts about ourselves and our loved onesand begin to instil some self (body) confidence in our children.Boudoir photographyOtherwise we are as guilty as the generations before us.Our children & teenagers should not be ashamed or worried about how they lookor become embarrassed on commenting how great a friend looks. We all need to accept a compliment, to be comfortable and confident about giving compliments.A woman looking at another woman and seeing beauty is not gay, weird or perverseits complimentary, it is natural and it is flattering... likewise for men.So what do you think? How do these images make you feel?....Let me know I'm interested in your view.My last thought for the day......"Question or challenge everything; judge no one - celebrate life"

Remember you are representing your brand values, you are the face of the business
Choose something that falls well and flatters your neckline.
If you choose to wear a suit make sure your jacket and shirt fit you well
(too big or too small will show in the photos)
Clothes should be neatly pressed or even treat yourself to something new!
Long sleeved shirts/blouses are best, even for the head and shoulders shots.
What colours photograph best?
Solid colours work really well and most people look good in mid-tones (green, blue and brown)
Be careful - white can "wash you out" (unless it's a shirt under a jacket).
Darker shades are more flattering and slimming, however black isn't always the best colour,
Black can look like a solid flat mass - navy, dark grey work well.
Wear colours than emphasise your eyes!

If you usually wear glasses, wear them in the photos. If you switch between contacts and

Keeping things simple with a plain background, ensures that the focus is on you.
The primary focus for a professional business headshot should be the face and
more specifically the eyes, as they are the windows to the soul.

FAQ's
How often should I update my photos?
If you have a drastic change of hairstyle or weight-loss or you have started wearing glasses -
then it's a good idea to update your profile picture.
If you have a team of employees with images on your website, then obviously you need to update
them as and when people leave or join the team.
If the clothing you are wearing in your shot has dated, you should update.
A suit and tie can appear timeless, if chosen carefully, however we all change over time
so I would recommend and update every couple of years as a minimum.

Do you photoshop the images?
Yes, I use photoshop. Digital files on professional cameras have an amazing amount of detail!!
I use editing techniques to even out skin tone, brighten eyes and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and laughter lines, although these are part of your character, they make you - YOU
so I don't remove them completely......I don't do the botox look. :)
I have tried and tested techniques in lighting, posing and editing to ensure you are shown at your very best.
